Going out of business sale – Bassett Furniture, Chantilly VA August 22, 2008
Bassett Furniture (map) on Rt. 50 in Chantilly, VA, is having a going out of business sale. They’ve marked most of their furniture with yellow tags, and those items are negotiable, so if you like haggling you might be able to get some great deals here.
The store isn’t actually closing, from what I hear: they’re moving from selling Bassett-branded furniture to Kincaid. The blue-tagged items in the store are Kincaid and are probably not discounted, although I’m not sure. Their style is classic American, with lots of dark wood and earthy tones.
If you’re a good negotiator, check it out! I’m not much of a haggler, but I did pick up a pretty glass bell jar while I was there.
Where are the stylish shelf liners? August 18, 2008

Shelf liners: useful but yawn-inducing. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a pop of color, in a fantastic pattern, to greet you every time you open a drawer or cabinet? It seems like not too many manufacturers have caught on yet, but here are some of the best finds around right now.
If you need extra cushioning for fragile dishes or glasses, these might be worth a try:

Here’s a short guide to applying shelf liners.
Vintage Wednesday: Teapots August 13, 2008
Every Wednesday I’ll be featuring affordable vintage pieces around the Web. (And by “around the Web,” I mean mostly Etsy.com, because it’s so much fun to dig around over there.) Below are some fantastic teapot finds. A few have been repaired, but most are under $20 and there are some fantastic deals in there.

China on the cheap: Wedgwood dinner plates August 12, 2008
Wedgwood china holds special meaning for me; I inherited part of my grandmother’s collection of Jasperware. Josiah Wedgwood first began his career at age 9 at his family’s pottery, gradually moving into his own business. In 1769 he opened his own factory in England. Although Jasperware is probably the best-known style of Wedgwood, the factory produces many styles, some in conjunction with other brands such as Martha Stewart’s Wedgwood wedding line.
If fine china’s part of your decor plans, look no further than eBay and Etsy, where listings for Wedgwood are cheap and plentiful. Here are some of the latest; clicking on the image will take you to the listing.
